What an exciting time to be a South Newton TIGER! As we acclimate ourselves into our new building, our focus of improving instruction in all areas for all students will continue to be at the heart of all we do. We will honor and value the individual talents of your child and promote the development of leadership skills that will serve your child for a lifetime through the implementation of our “Leader In Me” Program. Your child’s years at South Newton Elementary School will be positive and will be the foundation for an excellent education as well as many meaningful memories. South Newton’s school mission, “Building our Future one child at a time by Teaching students to think critically and creatively, Integrating 21st century skills, Growing leaders, Empowering students and staff, Respecting and appreciating differences, and Serving others” - drives what happens here. Incorporating The Leader in Me practices within our school’s environment and curriculum will help our students become even more ready to succeed in the 21st Century, with critical skills and characteristics such as: trustworthiness, a strong work ethic, motivation, problem-solving skills, goal setting, effective interpersonal skills, a sense of teamwork, academic achievement and valuing diversity in a global market. By developing the WHOLE child-- socially, emotionally, academically and ethically, we will foster a school climate that promotes everyday greatness!

The Leader in Me was first implemented at AB Combs Elementary in Raleigh, NC in 1999 and since has expanded to more than 1500 schools worldwide. Schools who have experienced success with the leadership model share that parental support at home is crucial. How can you support our efforts? Simply use the same language. By hearing the same language at home and at school, we send a strong message of what we believe is important and that we are on the same team – the team that wants students to be successful. When parents and schools work together, the sky is the limit!
Habit 1: Be Proactive (You’re in Charge)
Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind (Have a Plan)
Habit 3: Put First Things First (Work First, Then Play)
Habit 4: Think Win-Win (Everyone Can Win)
Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood (Listen Before you Talk)
Habit 6: Synergize (Together is Better)
Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw (Balance Feels Best).
